Bioluminescence Detection on HPTLC plates

The BioLuminizer® is a new detection system from CAMAG developed specifically for toxicity screening of complex mixtures through the detection of bioluminescence on HPTLC plates. After separation the plate is immersed in a luminescent bacterial suspension. The reaction takes place within a very short time such that all zones with inhibitory or toxic effects appear as black zones on the luminescent chromatogram. This method is a fast, low-cost way of demonstrating biological activity.

The BioLuminizer® offers high resolution and sensitivity to detect even the smallest change in intensity. The system has been specially designed to balance sensitivity, cost-effectiveness and ease of use.

  • Compact system with user-friendly handling and easy to clean.
  • High resolution cooled CCD camera with high quantum efficiency of up to 65% meets all detection requirements and allows short exposure times. State-of-the-art 16-bit data acquisition detects even the smallest change in intensity. Resolution is optimized to capture all details on the TLC plate following treatment with Bioluminex®.
  • Optimal environment for bioluminescent bacteria (Vibrio fischeri) is provided by the BioLuminizer’s unique HPTLC plate compartment, ensuring predictable bioluminescence for reproducible results. With no dry-out, the bacteria are kept moist and luminescent for hours, permitting long-term and differential measurements.
